Wellness and the Community Center
Wellness
At Lakeview Village, wellness has long been a way of life –
a way of thinking, doing, and being. And we don’t stop with
physical wellness: social, emotional, spiritual, vocational, and
intellectual endeavors interact with physical wellness to promote
optimum well-being for each Lakeview resident.
To bring the greatest possible experience of whole-person wellness
to every resident, Lakeview has recently hired Jan Montague, nationally
prominent expert on whole-person wellness, as Vice President of
Wellness Initiatives. Jan has an impressive history of helping
people – especially us mature ones – recognize and
attain individually-defined optimum health in all dimensions.

You’ll find wellness-promoting activities at Lakeview everywhere
you look:
•
Your
monthly fee includes one ample, healthy, delicious meal a day.
(Additional meals are available, of course.)
• Our Wellperson Team consists of fourteen residents who
volunteered for this project and a few staff members. They lead
the way in inspiring greater wellness among all community members.
• Opportunities for intellectual challenge abound: discussion
groups, continuing education, travel programs, etc.
• Our full-time volunteer coordinator can connect you with
fascinating, fulfilling programs and volunteer activities.
• Our full-time chaplain lives on campus and conducts two
non-denominational services per week.
• Our onsite clinic makes it easy and convenient to “go
to the doctor” for whatever reason.
• Our full-time fitness coordinator offers a myriad of courses
and classes to correspond to your specific needs and preferences,
such as strength training, yoga, and Tai Chi.
•
Fitness
offerings include line dancing, joint exercises, strength exercises,
balance classes, walking our walking trails, and more.
• A bus takes residents to the Quivira Fitness Club five
mornings a week for swimming until the new Community Center is
completed.
• More than 200 activities per week promote one or more
dimensions of wellness.

Community Center
In
2008, Lakeview expects to inaugurate its Community Center, now
in the late planning stages. The center will contain two swimming
pools (a classic lap pool and a special therapy pool), a casual
Bistro Café, exercise areas, rehabilitation facilities,
a meeting room, and more.
This center will connect to the north side of Heritage Place,
our classic building, so that all of our most essential amenities
– such as post office and receptionist services, banking,
the beauty salon, advanced wellness facilities – remain
under one roof.
We expect the new Community Center to become the “center”
of Lakeview, a place to meet friends within and from outside of
Lakeview, a symbol of our friendliness, path of wellness, and
spirit of community -- for decades to come.
