Whole-Person Wellness and Jan Montague
What is Wellness?
Research studies have documented the benefits that individuals,
regardless of age, can receive when they embrace wellness concepts
and strategies. We age successfully by incorporating wellness
concepts and beliefs into all aspects of our lives. Simply defined,
wellness is the integration of an individual’s multiple
dimensions into positive and meaningful activities.
This new approach to health, a comprehensive wellness model,
requires a lifestyle perspective that includes self-responsibility
for emotional, intellectual, physical, social, spiritual, and
vocational health; an optimistic outlook; and a can-do attitude.
Wellness is about adopting a whole-person health philosophy throughout
one’s entire life.
Why Should Lakeview Village Embrace a Wellness Philosophy?
• Residents in senior living communities that implement
wellness consciousness are more satisfied with their respective
communities.
• A wellness philosophy can lower residents’ overall
healthcare costs, because of the reduced need for medical intervention.
• Outreach strategies including a wellness philosophy attract
potential residents with greater health consciousness.
• A wellness philosophy can attract and retain satisfied
staff members.
• A wellness philosophy can reduce cost creep for residents
staying in their independent living apartments or cottages.
• A wellness philosophy will meet the needs of younger
residents moving in.
